Control / remove seed heads
Verti-cutting during periods when germination is at its peak results in an increase in Poa annua within the sward and should be avoided. Also avoid cultivation when seed germination is at its peak.
Poa annua var annua has a tufted habit and produces large amounts of seed that has a built in dormancy factor. Poa annua var reptans, has a creeping habit and produces less seed which has no dormancy.
Encourage maximum shoot density going into Poa annua seed germination periods, as this will discourage further seeding. Poa annua requires space and light to germinate and establish.
Mow twice daily when seed heads are formed.
